Evan :

This is Part 1 of my last "Defect in Design" e-mails - Part 2 will follow later.

Last week Brian Lentz asked me - "where is this going?" - you have told me that other members have also contacted you asking a similar question.

But let me reverse the question - "Where are you, Brian and all the members of IFADU going?" Do you all know the answers to that question?

If you are at "war", elite front line troops - can you tell me who the enemy is?

Is it clients who are submitting spurious mis-selling claims to FOS, is it FOS, is it FOS as part of the FSA, is it the FSA, is it the FSA as part of the FSMA, is it the FSMA, is it David Kenmir, John Tiner, Callum McCarthy, or is it the FSMA as part of Gordon Brown's plans, is it Gordon Brown, is it the Government, is it Standard Life, is it Fidelity, is it Lifesearch, is it ........

.........is it everyone and everything ........ are you even at war amongst yourselves?

I have read over 600 e-mails on your web site that have identified each and every one of those "enemies" and more .......so my fundamental question is "where are you going?"

It is possible to fight a war "against" something.........

...... but I am not sure you can fight a "war" against everything all at the same time, and sustain it whilst the number of active soldiers decrease at every battle, and fight amongst themselves.

It is possible to fight a war "for" something .......

......... to outline a strategy, to identify the objectives, the targets, choose the first battle, choose not only the first and subsequent battlefields, but prepare in advance for each battle, choose the timing of the battles, and when you win, you gain the chance of increasing the number of soldiers who are prepared to join the fray, you increase not diminish in strength.

That is where I am going, Brian, if I am to help - it will be in a war "for" something.

Where are you going?

The "war" I am interested in is one that is "for" something"

- that does not mean it is not fought "against" something - wars involve combat

- but if you do not make that first essential choice, that elementary distinction, is it a war against or a war for

- you build in a "defect in design", one can be won the other will be lost

- and no one else makes the choice - you have to make the decision.

The major battle (but not the first battle) I am interested in is financial advice and financial advice that can be truly regarded as "independent".

Independence gained not according to the rules of a Regulator (with a capital R), but independence judged by the most important regulator (with a small r) of all.

And I have an ally - perhaps the most important ally anyone could have - they are the ultimate regulator (the one with the small r) - the public.

It is the public whose savings, pensions and investments litter the battlefield - and who do they have to fight on their side?

It is the public who want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth as to why that has happened, why did Equitable collapse, why did their endowment not pay off their mortgage, where does their money go, why do they not trust the financial services industry.

Step back from your own self interest - just for a moment - and you will see the public up in arms, across every subject, pensions, endowments, split caps, and then into banking and credit cards, and then even further afield into council tax .......the list is virtually endless, and there is one common denominator.

Finance which = money which = income v expenditure.

That is the very same denominator that applies to you, that is the denominator that I used in my original e-mail - the first one I sent to IFADU - written in 1987 re-read it please

http://www.fs-du.co.uk/Defect_in_Design_Item_1.htm

What did I forecast

1 : Income - you will not have control of it - someone else will.

2: Expenditure - you will not have control of it - someone else will.

That is the same equation for the public - there is an unequalled demand in the market - it has never been more obvious - but where is the supply to come from to meet that demand.

If you believe that "independent" financial advice is an important element in that supply - then perhaps there is something worth fighting "for".

That is where I am going, it is where I have been going all my adult life - and the articles I have sent to you will either confirm or deny the truth of that statement.

If you don't believe it is a cause worth fighting for - then over to you - where are you going?
